Research Abstract

Observations of our galactic center:
We have mapped an area of 5 arc-minutes of the molecule cloud (0.02+0.02) that displays peculiar velocity structure discovered in the galactic center in the CI line (492 GHz). The CI emission associated with the molecular cloud which was observed with the Nobeyama 45-m telescope, appeared 30 arc-seconds away from the CO cloud. The C/CO abundance ratio was found to be 0.45, which is about 3 times as large as a typical value for giant molecular clouds. in the galactic disk. These results suggest existence of a shocked region in which molecular gas has been dissociated by shock waves by several supernova explosions.
Observation of nucleus regions galaxies:
Mapping observations in the CO (J=3-2) line were made for NGC253, a galaxy of active star formation. The strong CO emission was found not only in the center region but also in the disk a few kpc from the nucleus where the CI was also discovered.
