Research Abstract |
The results of the research of each investigator are given as follows. S.Otani focused on public opinion polls conducted by 44 local governments in Osaka prefecture. He collected all of the questionnaires of ever opinion poll, and assessed their quality. He examined whether these polls accurately reflect citizen's opinions. The findings of the research were published in the book entitled "Rethinking Public Opinion Polls Conducted by Japanese Local Governments", Minerva Press, 2002. From the same point of view, he also analyzed the public opinion polls carried 6ut by Asahi Shinbun and NHK. H.Komatsu and T.Nagano focused on basic knowledge about mathematics in order to understand various social research methods. Based on a detailed analysis of teaching guidelines, they investigate how high school students study mathematics. In addition, they developed methods for teaching mathematics to university students and achievement tests. N.Goto, E.Kinoshita and S.Otani gathered data on methods of teaching social survey in foreign countries. They analyzed course syllabuses and the textbooks used at three universities.
