Research Abstract |
First, we have completed the Tokyo Daigaku Shiryo hensanjo shozo shoen ezu mohon (The Reproduction of Shoen ezu in University of Tokyo Historiographical Institute Collection) and Nishioka Toranosuke shushu ezu korekushon (Pictorial Maps in the Nishioka Toranosuke Collection), as well as their indexes. Second, we have photographed on 4 x 5 color film all of the pictorial maps in the above collections, saved the color films in tiff format. Furthermore, in preparation for the creation of a high-resolution. "Database of Reproductions of Shoen ezu in the University of Tokyo Historiographical Institute Collection," we have studied various high resolution image viewer software programs available, and at this point, in the year 2000, we have judged that MrSID provided by Rizardtech, Co., was the best software for our purpose. As a result, we have transferred all data of the Institute's shoen ezu reproductions saved in tiff format into MrSID files, and as for MrSID, we have reinforced some of its revolving and horizontal reversing functions for LAN uses within the Institute. At the same time, we (1) improved its information management ability, (2) produced tracing sketches and (3) measured drawings of the original maps, (4) compiled information on commentaries and (5) pictographical information, (6) prepared information on textual documents in order to create "The Database of Reproductions of Shoen ezu in the University of Tokyo Historiographical Institute Collection. " Finally, we achieved new research results on the maps of Bicchu Province Hattori County and Shimosa Province Moro County, through investigation of the original maps and field research.
