Research Abstract

The objective of this project research is a development of a system for a Ultrafast photonic time-Space conversiOn and transmission. Increasing demands for multi-media information in a networked society requires an optical fiber communication system with ultra-high transmission capaqity and ultrafast processing system. Since data in the advanced networks are ultrafast ones, it is necessary to develop an ultra fast optical information processing system whose processing speed is over Tbps, at least. One promissing approach is a paralle processing to realize such an ultrafast information proces slng.
For this purpose, we have proposed the novel optical ultrafast two-dimensional space -to- time -to- two-dimensional space conversion techuique among image signals and time sequential ones with an ultra-fast pulse laser. By using the proposed technique, we constructed a femtosecond pulse optical information processing system and demonstrated fundamental functions of the optical routing system for an ultrafast packet switching. As a result of experimental verification, we confirmed that the proposed technique is compatible with the current ultrafast optical fiber cornmunication system. To demonstrate the capability of the constructed system, we implemented the ultrafast header recognition whose processing rate is over 600Gbps. From the results of this research, we can 6btain the important knowledge, with which the proposed technique would become an ultra fast optical infonnation processing sYstem in the next generation of networked society.
