Research Abstract

Cytotoxic lymphocytes play an important role for immune defense against virus-infected cells and cancer. Intercellular adhesion molecule is involved in binding between killer lymphocytes and target cells. We previously identified a novel adhesion molecule DNAM-1 (CD226). Here we have explored the regulatory mechanisms of intercellular binding and signaling mediated by DNAM-1, leading to fundamental understanding for immune defense against virus infection and cancer. Moreover, we have also identified CD155 and CD112 as the DNAM-1 ligands. DNAM-1 binding with its ligands mediates activation signal in cytotoxic Lymphocytes. In addition, we have demonstrated that DNAM-1 also plays an important role for regulation of immune system and thrombosis.
