1)Regional geography edited by government derived from the traditional style of China is characteristic of the catalogue on geographical properties. So original method for representation can not be pointed out in it. 2)Therefore the aim of the research focused on the work described by individual geographer, YOSHIDA TOGO who completed A DICTIONARY OF GEOGRAPHICAL NAMES OF JAPAN. 3)The results of the research are as follows. The dictionary was influenced by the YOSHIDA's opinions and interests in the Meiji era.. Mainly two viewpoints are showed in it. One is the importance of self -government of local region, the other is the historical concern for the expansion of the state territory.
