Research Abstract |
An attribute type system of qualitative information is proposed and evaluated in case studies. We have investigated the issues on semantic and qualitative information processing through the interdisciplinary collaboration of computer and social scientists. We first clarified the research methods and processes of social informatics, and then deployed media and natural language processing technologies on the field. The principal research results are as follows: 1. Non-verbal information processing in video analysis Extracting the region, direction and each part of the moving human face, the patterns of psychological state transition are recognized. 2. Evaluation of qualitative information in natural language description Several experiments of measuring the mutual distance between contemporary terms are studied for predicting catch phrases. 3. Identification of background and context information in a streamed media Case studies on the usage of mobile phones and tones in informal talk, triggers of psychological state changes are tried to identified. 4. Qualitative information to analyze in social informatics Case studies on the verbal language used among the younger generation, the process of social structuring is studied. 5. Semantic model and evaluation of qualitative information
