Research Abstract

The purpose of this study is to solve the problem in metal sources for titanium, niobium, tantalum and bismuth metal oxides that are widely used industrially as starting compounds for electric or catalytic materials, to design and synthesize new non-toxic water-soluble titanium, niobium, tantalum and bismuth compounds, and to develop by use of these compounds environmentally benign preparation of multi-component oxides.
(1) Development of titanium peroxo citrato ammonium
The water-soluble titanium peroxo citrato ammonium was synthesized by treating metalic titanium with hydrogen peroxide followed by addition of citric acid. The isolated single crystal was submitted to XRD analysis to determine its precise crystal structure.
(2) Synthesis of TiO_2 and BaTi_4O_9 using water-soluble titanium peroxo citrato ammonium
Thin films of TiO_2 and powders of BaTi_4O_9 were synthesized by use of water-soluble titanium peroxo citrato ammonium as a starting titanium source and water as a process solvent, and photocatalytic properties of the obtained materials were tested.
(3) Development of water-soluble titanium lactate and synthesis of thin films and ultra-fine powders of SrTiO_3
A single crystal of the water-soluble titanium lactate was grown from a solution obtained by treating metalic titanium with hydrogen peroxide followed by addition of lactic acid. The precise crystal structure was determined by use of XRD technique. Using this compound, ultra-fine powders and thin films with thickness of 300nm of SrTiO_3 were prepared at 500℃.
(4) Development of water-soluble niobium and tantalum compounds
Stable and water-soluble (NH_4)_3[Nb(O_2)_4]and(NH_4)_3[Ta(O_2)_4] compounds were developed by treating niobium oxide or tantalic acid with hydrogen peroxide solution containing ammonia, and multi-component oxides were synthesized from aqueous solutions by use of these compounds.
