マージェリー・ケンプと聖ブリジット:写本研究と伝播の特徴

Research Abstract

The Oxford Lincoln College MS Lat69と同MS Lat75はAlan of Lynnによって編纂されたIndex made by Alan of Lynn for the Revelationsを含むと考えられている。しかし、これまでの調査で、MS Lat69とMS Lat75は類似性があるが、別個のIndexと考察される。なぜなら、引用文の表記基準が異なっている。MS75はbook+chapter noで、MS69はchapter numberのみである。また、MS69はGiles of RomeのDe regimine principumのインデックス等を含んでいて、Revelationsはindexのセットの一部分を占めている。したがって、Roger EllisがMS Lat69とMS Lat75のIndexが同一であると述べている点(註:'Flores Ad Fabricandam...Coronam' : An Investigation into the Use of the Revelations of St Bridget of Sweden in Fifteenth-Century England', Medium Aevum, 51(1982), 163-86)は、写本製作者がAlan of Lynnであるかどうかも含め再検討されなければならない。また、マリア崇敬に関する両写本のちがいでは、例えば、MS Lat75のindexにはブリジット修道会の典礼書Sermo Angelicusが言及されているがMS69には見当たらない。しかし、MS69にはAdjutorium, adoratus等、多数の聖母マリアに関する引用が含まれる。
今後はMS Lat69とMS Lat75の相異を検証し、Alan of Lynnと写本制作の関係を明らかにした上で、マージェリーとBridgetの著作と霊性の関係を検証、考察する必要がある。
尚、ブリジットとマージェリーの神秘的霊性について写本研究と平行して行ってきた論文はReading Medieval Studiesに掲載予定である。さらに、マージェリーの神秘的黙想の論考もLeeds Studies in Englishに掲載される。
