Research Abstract

Our purpose of research is to describe the general picture of the local divergences of idiomatic turn of speech in the sixteenth-century German speaking areas. As the first research phase, we in this project have collected 65 texts of "Grievance articles of Peasants" from the Upper Swabia at the German Peasants War 1524-25 and have confirmed their geographical and chronological correlations. The analyses maded on them to clarify distinctions in the expression of grievances among the articles should offer beneficial explanations for our purpose, because the peasants in those days expressed their common grievances in all the Upper Swabia (e.g. abolition of tithe, reduction of rents and recovery of timber right in forests etc.) in their own local way of speech.
