Research Abstract |
The purpose of this study is to clarify the real status of the job hunting activities of university students and the recruiting activities of companies for them in order to recommend the effective method for managing them. To accomplish it, we have carried out three questionnaire surveys and some interview surveys. The implemented questionnaire surveys were followings ; "Questionnaire Survey on the Job Hunting Activities of University Students", for the fourth years students, whose majors are in the social science fields or humanities, in 2000fy, "Questionnaire Survey on the Recruiting Activities of Companies for University Students", for companies in 2001fy, and "Attitude Survey for Young Employees after Taking Job", for the university graduates, who has graduated within a couple of years, in 2001fy - 2002fy. And six articles were published based on these surveys as Nagano (2002), Nemoto (2002), Kiya (2002), Nagano (2003a), Nagano (2003b), and Ushio (2003). The major findings of these analyses are summarized as follows. First the Employment criterion of the companies is trainablity of students, but not the occupational skills. Second, the success factors of job hunting are higher academic record and more positive commitment to job hunting activity itself rather than higher ranking of their university. Third, on the other hand, the success factors of the recruiting activities of companies are adequate supply of business conditional information to the applicants and the adoption of applicants assessment system that regards their intellect as important. Forth, in order to nurture students' interest and concern for job or occupation, it was suggested that joint industry-university programs, such as internship, are effective. Less
