Research Abstract |
In order to induce a lightning to the tip of a tower, a long ionized channel has been studied. A high-power C02 Iaser can create a long chain of discrete plasma beads but has a problem in inducing a disoharge because its conductance is not homogenous. The short pulse laser can produce a long ionized continuous channel, i, e. filamentary plasma. The theoretical model has developed to explain the mechanism of the production of the filamentary plasma. The optical air-breakdown mechanism was treated by enrpirical relations instead of taking inverse bremsstrahlung into cosiderations. A simple equation was newly proposed here to describe processes of growing of plasma beads. The simulation results on the density plasma beads wre qualitatively in agreement with experimental results. The model consisting of these procedures has a possibility of predict the density of plasma beads whioh are produoed in the atmosphere by a C02 Iaser owing to ignition of atmospheric aerosols.
