Research Abstract |
1. Endogenous giberellins (GAs) were extracted from immature seeds of Campbell Early, Delaware and Kosyu grapes. After ODS-HPLC, the fractions that showed GAs activity in three cultivars were No.14-15 (I), No.18-19 (II) No.23-25 (III) and No.26-27 (IV). However, total GAs activity was higher in Campbell Early followed by Delaware and Kosyu. GAs present in IV of Campbell Early were identified as GA_4, 3-epi-GA_4, GA_7 and GA_<34>, by GC-MS. 2. GA_3, GA_4 or GA_7 were appllied to flower cluster 2 weeks before and 10 days after full bloom. These GAs induced parthenocarpy in Campbell Early, Delaware and Kosyu grapes. However, the effect of the treated GAs was different among cultivars. Higher percentages of berry set in. Campbell Early, Delaware and Kosyu were observed in order GA_7(96%)>GA_3(71%)>GA_4(66%), GA_7(99%)>GA_4(97%)>GA_3(94%) and A_3(28%)>GA_7(16%)>GA_4(14%), respectively. And also, the aplication GA_3, GA_4 or GA_7 to Campbell Early and Delaware strongly inhibited the pollen germination, but such a trend was not observed in Kosyu. 3. GAs extracted from immature seeds of Campbell Early and Kosyu were applied to the emasculated florets of both cultivars at anthesis. They induced parthenocarpy, but the percentage of berry set varied between cultivars.
