Research Abstract |
In the first year, the surface mapping machine and its software were designed to get the optical surface image and make a synthesized image from the optical surface images. In the second year, the experimental study on the relation between fruit surface and the internal quality was carried out using the developed surface mapping apparatus. Apple was used as a test fruit because the producers and the consumers select an apple watching its surface image. 5 pieces of 3 variety, "Mutsu", "Sun-Fuji" and "Kogyoku" were tested. The surface image was taken by the surface mapping apparatus and the sugar concentration at a point of 5mm under the surface was measured with Brix sugar concentration apparatus for 40 samples each apple. The analysis of the surface mapping image was carried out by the brightness of RGB. The distribution of RGB brightness was calculated in the area divided in a certain section. The image was characterized with the mean and the variance of distribution against the size of division. The evaluation of color distribution was analyzed after HIS transform. The data of Mutsu showed a significant relation between the color distribution and the sugar distribution. Sun-Fuji and Kogyoku have not a strong relation between the color and sugar distribution.
