Research Abstract |
The objectives of the present study were to determine whether pre-extraction orthodontic jiggling or enamel matrix derivative could affect the function of periodontium and subsequent root resorption after replantation or autotransplantation of teeth. In 6 adult male beagle dogs, a labio-lingual jiggling force was applied to the incisors for 4 weeks in maxilla and mandible before extraction. Maxillary incisors in one side were transplanted to the other side, and the mandibular incisors were replanted. Bimaxillarly P1 in one side were transplanted to the other side with or without enamel matrix derivative. All animals were sacrificed 6 to 7 weeks after the autotransplantation and replantation, and the dissected specimen. were prepared for histological study and fluorescence study. Jjiggling force significantly increased tooth mobility, significantly decreased extraction time and root resorption of transplanted and replanted teeth. In addition, enamel matrix derivative significantly decreased tooth mobility and root resorption after autotransplanation and replantation. These results suggest that orthodontic jiggling and enamel matrix derivative would be effective tools for clinical autotransplantation of teeth.
