Research Abstract |
The MeOH extracts of 609 plant materials from 403 species belonging to 98 families were checked for their antiproliferative activity against 3 tumor cell lines, human stomach cancer cell (MK-1), human uterine cancer cell (HeLa), malignant mouse melanoma cell (B16F10). Among them the extracts of 78 plant species showed 50% growth inhibition at the concentration less than 12.5 μg/ml, however, more than half of them were already investigated and the active constituents have been specified. Twenty-four plant extracts among those which have attracted our interests were further fractionated guided by activity, and the constituents were isolated, identified, or the structures of new compounds were determined. Variety of compounds, chalcones, flavones, isoflavones, tannins and related compounds, phenylethanoid glycoside phenylpropanoic acid esters, coumarins, alkaloids, terpenoids, steroids and triterpenids, were isolated and their antiproliferative activities against three tumor cell lines were determined. The details of the results are shown in the report. Some plant extracts were screened for the anti-HIV activity, however, we could not get the promising results, and the further investigation is now suspended.
