Research Abstract |
In this research, we have investigated a new construction method of distributed operating system that is adaptable to change of environment. Firstly, in this research, we have developed an abstraction method of computer resources, in order to manage plural computers that have different environment each other. Furthermore, we have developed an operating system based on this method, and confirmed its effectiveness by various evaluation. In this research, the following results are obtained. 1. We have developed an abstraction method of memory resources on plural computers connected via a network. Furthermore, by using this method, we have implemented the distributed virtual memory. 2. We have developed an abstraction method of peripheral devices on plural computers. This method realizes device manipulation without depending on each device location. This method enables an operating system to manage devices with location transparency. 3. We have developed the load balancing mechanism, which examines the system load and determines where each process should work. 4. We have evaluated the system by using some applications. For example, in processing of reading a file, it is confirmed that the process, the kernel, and the disk driver can work location transparently.
