Research Abstract |
This research was started for the purpose of developing wind turbines and wind power generation systems which can be driven atarid lands in the world. Many of the research achievements were related to the numerical simulations of a Savonius wind turbine and a straight line wings perpendicular axis wind turbine. Many research achievements on experiments haven't been achieved well because time was needed for a design and construction of a wind tunnel experimental facility and new technology wind turbines. The research achievements can be classified as follows. 1. Direct research : numerical summations of a Savonius wind turbine and a perpendicular axis wind turbine ; wind tunnel experiments. 2. Related research : (1) research on desert ; (2) research on wind power : wind investigation ; component engineering of a wind turbine. The wind tunnel developed, which can generate three kinds of fluctuating winds, has the characteristic rare in the world as a wind tunnel for wind turbine research. Since tins grant-in-aid for scientific research was a subsidy for promoting collaboration of university and society, many people who visited Tottori University were provided with the opportunity to inspect the wind tunnel. The visitors includes people who are related to industry, academia and government cooperation, people who desire a joint research with Tottori University, and people of a local government which is going to industrialize wind power. Furthermore, many joint researches were conducted in order to promote the industy-university cooperation, and the sponsored researches from Tottori Prefecture, NEDO, a company, etc. were also conducted positively. Fortunately, this research is taken over to the group of the utilization of natural energy of the "Program for Arid Land Science" of Tottori University. That program was adopted as the 21st century COE program of the Ministry of Education, Culture Sports, Science and Technology in 2002.
