Research Abstract |
(1) Non-precious Metal Oxide Electrodes The binary oxide electrodes synthesized with TiQ_2 and V_2O_5 provided high capacitance, ca. 100 F g^<-1>. This value corresponds to the capacitance of the carbon electrodes put on the market, and the surface charge of the binary oxide electrodes, Ti-V-O, was higher than 0.4 mC cm^<-2> which is the highest surface activity among the conventional electrodes published. Loading of Mo0_3 on activated carbon, Mo0_3/C, resulted in an increase of the capacitance up to 33% in 0.5 M H_2S0_4. (2) Precious Metal Oxide Electrodes High-surface area binary oxide. Ru-V-O, was developed by polymerizable complex method. The electrodes with this binary oxide provided highest capacitance, 1200 F g^<-1>_<(Ru02)>, at a composition of Ru_<35>V_<65>O_2. The power density was improved by an addition of acetylene black to the oxide. (3) Development of University and Society Collaboration a)Collaboration with Rubycon Co. : The capacitance of Mo0_3/C electrode was examined in organic electrolyte ; however, little effect of the addition of Mo0_3 to the activated carbon was observed. b)Collaboration with Shinko Electric Ind. Co. : The surface composition of Ru0_2-Ir0_2/Ti and Ru0_2-Ti0_2/Ti electrodes were characterized by SAM and EPMA. Considerable segregation of Ru and Ir was observed along the mud-crack of the oxide layer. The requirements of the supercapacitors (size, capacitance, thermal resistance) in order to use them electric circuits were discussed. c)Collaboration with Industrial Research Institute of Nagano Prefecture: The surface composition of Ir0_2-Ti0_2/Ti electrodes were characterized by SAM.
