Research Abstract |
(Function of Proteoglycan) 1. Malaria I went to study to Penn. State University College of Medicine and did a joint research with Prof. Channe Gowda concerning the exact structure of the proteoglycan that inhibits the adhesion of Plasmodium falciparum infected red blood cells in human placenta. As a result, the chondroitin 4-sulfate chain of proteoglycan showed inhibitory activity. 2. Ulcerative colitis We examined the effect of orally administered chondroitin sulfate proteoglycan(PG) against the dextran sodium sulfate(DSS) induced experimental colitis of rats. Colitis evaluations were made of bloody stool symptoms, hematological date, colon length and microscopic examination. PG improved the symptoms of bloody stools, increase of white blood cells, decrease of red blood cells, shortening of the colon length due to colitis and microscopically promoted healing of mucosal damage induced by DSS. (Glycotechnological synthesis of proteoglycan) 1. Glycosaminoglycan chains Reconstruction of Using a transglycosylation activity of testicular hyaluronidase, it was possible to custom synthesize glycosaminoglycan chains. 2. Attachment of GAG chains of protein Using transglycosylation activity of endo-b-xylosidase, it was possible to transfer of the reconstructed GAG chains to the core protein.
