Research Abstract

Cooperation of this project with Kanagawa Prefecture obtained fruitful research results in:1) creatures collected in the Sagami Bay were investigated in their scientific name, numbers of collected individuals, size of them, and they were reserved as samples in ethanol. All of these features were visualized as photograph and were Registered in the data-base developed in this research project. 2) Important and valuable animal species were surveyed and collected from the sea and deep sea of the Sagami Bay and genes of these species were preserved, and cDNAs were analyzed. 3) Important and valuable species for academic research, for example, ascidians, amphioxus, hagfish etc. were used for the studies in the field of developmental biology, reproductive biology, physiology, endocrinology and genetic science. 4) Circulation of materials and nutrients was investigated in the Sagami Bay, and visualization of geological and biological features of the surface and bottom of Sagami Bay were conducted using Video Camera equipped with aquatic robot. 5) Survay of pollutants namely organic tins derived from painting of vessels for example tributyl-tin and triphenyl-tin which induce spermatogenesis in ovary of female bivalve was conducted in the Sagami Bay. In additon to these academic activity, civilian grope named "Sagami Bay Network (SBnet)" was established, and members of SBnet contribute the activity of scientists included in this project.
