Research Abstract	初期発生の包括的解析のための一歩として、ゲノムおよびcDNA情報の収集があげられる。本研究班のうち上野直人、平良眞規、田代康介の3名が取り組むアフリカツメガエル機能ゲノム学の基礎作りは順調に進んでおり、12万ESTについてはほぼデーターベースが完備された。マイクロアレイも整備され、予備実験の結果も集積しつつある。データーベース構築により明らかになった全長を含むと予想される約3000のcDNAクローン(Xenopus3000)については内部シーケンスの解読が始められ、ツメガエル実験系の利点を生かした網羅的機能解析のための完全長cDNAコレクション完備のための準備が進んでいる。また同時に、Xenopus3000のin situ hybridizationによる発生ステージ別遺伝子発現プロフィールの解析も始まり、発現データはデーターベースに包含される予定である。ナショナルバイオリソースプロジェクトの開始に伴って、ホヤ、ショウジョウバエ、アフリカツメガエル(Xenpus tropicalsも含む)、などのゲノム配列情報、EST情報の収集が加速しつつあり、西田宏記らによるホヤMacho-1関連遺伝子の同定、小林悟らによるショウジョウバエVasaの生殖細胞特異的発現を制御するプロモータ領域の決定など、本研究班の個別研究にとっても大きな追い風となっている。また、本特定領域研究内の研究班間での共同研究も活発に進められており、本研究班の平良眞規、第三班(発生システムの進化、代表者野地)の阿形清和の共同研究はプラナリアにおける新規神経形成抑制因子の発見と機能解析という独創的な研究成果に結びついた(昨年9月にNatureに発表)。
