Research Abstract

理論的研究
形状記憶合金を広い温度領域で利用するために、記憶性の起因である構造相転移の転移温度を制御することは重要な課題である。強磁性形状記憶合金系Ni-Mn-Ga-X (X=遷移元素)の転移温度の価電子濃度に対する変化と、母相とマルテンサイト相間の全エネルギー差とを対応させ、転移温度を理論的に予測できることを示した。また、形状記憶合金TiNiに対しても、遷移元素を数パーセント添加して転移温度を変える試みがなされている。その際、不純物がTiサイトとNiサイトのどちらを占有するかは、形状記憶効果を調べる上で重要な課題の1つである。母相とマルテンサイト相のTiNi合金にFe、Co、Cu、Znを添加し、これら不純物がTiあるいはNiサイトのどちらを占めるかを、電子状態を基に調べ、不純物の原子番号がNiの番号より小さい場合はNiサイト、大きい場合はTiサイトを占有することが理論的に予測できた。更に、Ni2.17Mn0.83Ga、TiNi、TiNi8/9Fe1/9薄膜の電子構造を計算し、それぞれの膜の特徴を調べた。これらの結果は新機能物質を探索するのに貢献をするものと考えられる。
実験的研究
スパッタリング法を用いた形状記憶合金の薄膜化のために、以下の点を明らかにした。
気相中の輸送過程において、アルゴンガス流れの状態をスパッタリングの電圧・電流特性の時間依存性より明らかにする手法を開発し、薄膜組成を精密制御する手法として基板に運動を導入することでスパッタ粒子-基板の衝突エネルギーを制御し、付着確率を制御する手法を確立した。さらに、回転基板上の境界層内における粒子衝突過程を、セクターを用いた衝突数制御法により制御できることを明らかにした。これらのことから、一般のスパッタリング法では、高エネルギースパッタ粒子のために微細構造制御が不可能で、形状記憶効果を用いた新規ナノ構造デバイス開発には、スパッタ粒子の低エネルギー化が不可欠であり、アルゴン原子との衝突によるエネルギー損失だけでは不十分であった。電子状態評価のために、ハーフメタル酸化物薄膜のスピン偏極電子分光装置の開発を行い、銀薄膜のスペクトルの温度依存性から、精度の測定が可能であることが明らかになった。
