Research Abstract |
Research 1: We conducted the self-report survey to determine the social participation and secondary worsening of difficulties (SWD) among paralytic poliomyelitis and Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) survivors based on the category of ICIDH-2 β-2. To Assess the time course of SWD, we introduced the Visual Analogue Scale for Time Course (VAST). We sent self-report inventory to 976 polio survivors and 1,181 SCI survivors. A total of 583 polio survivors and 519 SCI survivors responded. We mainly analyzed VAST this year. Among the SCI survivors the prevalence of SWD increased and the curve of life satisfaction declined relatively soon after onset. Among polio survivors the prevalence of SWD increased rapidly after 30 years of stability. However the life satisfaction was kept still later years. Research 2: We conducted qualitative research about the amelioration of life satisfaction. We reviewed the literatures and made the interview guide. Interview guide was consist of 6 grand tour questions, 2 final questions and additional question. Subjects were polio survivors whose time after onset was over 30 years and life satisfaction was rising at that time and SCI survivors whose time after onset was over 15 years and life satisfaction was rising at that time. Among 51 polio survivors and 47 SCI survivors who were eligible we interviewed 10 individuals on each disability. Analysis was conducted by two ways. First we used descriptive analysis for each question. Second we conducted qualitative data analysis of editing approach. By the two way of analysis, we tried to determine the factors that associated with the amelioration of life satisfaction.
