Research Abstract |
Since the degree of air cleanness depends on the frequency of ventilation, correction fqr the frequency of ventilationwas performed in the establishment of standards. When results of measurement of air-borne bacteria in dental clinics were evaluated according to the tolerant concentration of air-hone bacteria in the U.S. Federal Standard No. 209 B, C, D, E clean rooms, the tolerant concentration was 2.5 cfu/ft3 for class 100,000 but the concentration in the investigated dental clinics was 1.4-32.8 cfu/'ft3. According to the tolerant concentrationproposedby theAmericanAssociationof Surgery (1978), 70%of the investigated dental dines and hospitals were classified as "contaminated surgery". According to the Standards of the JapanHospital Equipment Association (1998), most hospitals were classified as quasi-clean Or general clean areas. In the classification of the degree of air cleanliness associatedwith dental treatment, weighting of thedetectionrate (%) of aandgstreptococci maybenecessary. Accordingto thesestandardswithweighting, all dental clinics investigated in this study were "in an unfavorable state". We tested the eliminating effects by the new electric air cleaner within activated carbon systemwith the plaque solution aerosol . we developed an apparatus by incorporating the bactericidal function of white coal (coal obtained by burning at 800°C or more) with a very high minus potential on its surface into an HEPA filter-type air cleaner, and carried out amodel experiment on its effects in a clean booth. Good results were obtained with an eradication rate of 90% or more for filamentous fungi, coagulase (-) staphylococci, non-fer'mentative rods,Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus sp, Microcossus sp, Streptococcus sp, Gram-negative rods> Gram-positive rods, Gram- positive cocci, and a-hemolytic streptococci.
