Research Abstract |
Recently the numbers of foreign people living in Japan or people who do not speak Japanese as a mother language are increasing. Most of her/his children go to day-care center or kindergarten. The aim of this research is to focus on the parent whose background is multi-cultural one and explore the common problem with respects to child-rearing in Japan, in addition to make guidelines for the proper method and direction for the multi-cultural education and understanding in the field of child-rearing education. We conducted the questionnaires for the people who live in Osaka and Tokyo using sheets translated into 11 different languages and obtained the response from 2,002 people. We summarized the data of the questionnaires and published the report as "Multi-cultural Child-rearing Research Report" last 3 years in 4 different languages such as Japanese, English, Chinese and Korean in order to feed back the results to the parents who responded to the questionnaire. This report includes various questions and proposals for the child-rearing in Japan and child-rearing policy in the day-care center or kindergarten, or policy for the child rearing in the prefecture government, and has been now widely used as the reference in each field. We also developed a guideline entitled "Q and A for the multi-cultural child-rearing". This guideline describes how to respond children or parents with multi-cultural background, and also include the proper concept for the multi-cultural education and understanding, and is also widely used.
