Research Abstract |
GROWTH ANALYSIS AND MYCORRHIZAL FORMATION ANALYSIS WERE CONDUCTED FOR SEEDLING S OF AMBROSIA TRIFIDA, AN ALIEN PLANT SPECIES, IN ENVIRONMENTAL SIMULATORS WITH THREE NITROGEN CONDITIONS (NO NUTRITION, HIGH AMMONIA-FORMED NITROGEN RATIO, AND HIGH NITRATE-FORMED NITROGEN RATIO). RELATIVE GROWTH RATES (RGRS) OF SEEDLINGS SAMPLED FROM MINAKAMI, AT NORTHERN SITE UNDER COLD CLIMATE AND WITH HIGH AMMONIA-FORMED NITROGEN RATIO IN THE SOIL, WERE ALWAYS LOWER THAN THOSE OF SEEDLING FROM ISESAKI, AT CENTRAL JAPAN UNDER WARM CLIMATE AND WITH HIGH NITRATE-FORMED NITROGEN RATIO IN THE SOIL, INDEPENDENT OF THE NITROGEN CONDITIONS. MYCORRHIZAL FORMATION WAS AROUND 70% OF THE ROOTS, INDEPENDENT OF THE NITROGEN CONDITIONS. THESE RESULTS SUGGEST THAT, THIS ALIEN PLANT SPECIES, WHICH IS REPORTED THAT IT HAS ALREADY HAD COMPETITIVE AND RUDERAL STRATEGIES, MAY BE UNDER EVOLUTION TO HAVE STRESS-TOLERANCE STRATEGY. WITH THESE FINDINGS, SOME STATISTICAL METHODS FOR ANALYZING THE CHRONIC CHANGES OF LIFE HISTORY TRAITS WERE EXAMINED AND FRAME-WORKS FOR MAKING A NEW MATHEMATICAL MODEL FOR PLANT DEMOGRAPHY, WHICH INCLUDES THE STOCHASTIC ASPECTS OF THE LIFE HISTORY TRAITS, WERE CONSTRUCTED.
