Research Abstract

By extensively visiting libraries within the country, and also by acquiring photographic materials owned by libraries in various districts, this research progressed mainly focusing on the chronicles that seems to have ceased their transitions during the Kamakura and Muromachi Eras, especially Kohdairyaku,Ichidaiyohki and Kohteikisho. These collected materials were organized and sorted into a catalogue.
Among these, Shinmeikyo, Kohdairyaku, Ohnendaiki, Kairekizohjiki, Nendaikihaigohsho, Nengohshidai were chosen as the works that bear strong affinity to Medieval Literature. They were compared with ancient records such as diaries, and tneir connection to Medieval Literature, especially war romances, was made clear.
1. The possibility of Kohdairyaku being the source of Heikemonogatari was discussed based on the comparison of "Kisotozan" with various sources. This calls for a reassessment of the time of completion of Heikemonogatari (nantobon) that have been judged so far as being written later.
2. It was found that Shinmeikyoh and Ohnendaiki quotes from Heikemonogatari(shibukassenjohbon) and amends its lacks, and thus retains older forms partially.
3. Similarities and differences were compared between Nengohshidai and Heikemonogatari. They were found to share some common chronological characteristics, suggesting the possibility that Heikemonogatari was written based on some yet unknown chronology.
4. Ohnendaiki was compared with Heikemonogatari (shibukassenjohbon), Heikeuchigiki, heikezokudensho, Sogamonogatari (myohonji-bon), Shintohshu, and Ohdaiki to clarify its connection to them.
