| Research Abstract |
今年度は、これまでマレーシア・キナバル山と鹿児島県・屋久島の、それぞれ4標高点に設定した永久調査区で、以下のような野外調査をおこなった。キナバル山では、9-10月に調査区の樹木の幹直径を再測定した。屋久島ではリター(落葉・落枝)落下量の継続観測をおこない、リタートラップをもちいて月1回回収し、葉・繁殖器官・枝・その他に分別して乾重を測定した。それと平行して、リターの分解速度を推定するため、リターバッグを用いた分解実験を開始し、年4回にわたって林床のリター層を採取して乾重を測定した。また、緯度傾度にそった解析のため、10月に亜熱帯に位置する沖縄県・西表島にも2標高点に新たな永久調査区を設定し、樹木の種を同定し幹直径を測定した。
また、キナバル山での野外調査に基づき、以下のようなデータ解析と成果の発表をおこなった。1997年までに調査区で得られたデータをもとに地上部の純一次生産速度を推定し、その結果をイギリス生態学会の「生態学雑誌」で発表した(Kitayama ＆ Aiba 2002)。また、1995-1999の幹直径データに基づいて地上部の純一次生産速度の変動を分析し、1997-1998年のエルニーニョ南方振動に伴うかんばつが生産を低下させたことを明らかにし、その結果を「熱帯生態学雑誌」で発表した(Aiba ＆ Kitayama 2002)。地形による樹木種の組成と種多様性のちがいについても共著論文の一部を分担して、「植物生態学」誌で発表した(Takyu et al. 2002)。
