Outline of Annual Research Achievements

We have completed the design and deployment of the planned system (CMS-mini) for managing one course as a start. CMS-mini is deployed on Google App Engine and the development version is available at http://simulation-cms-mini.appspot.com/home.jsp .
A mobile has been developed application to be used instead of the web interface at the students' convenience.
Simulation tests has been run on CMS-mini alone and integrated with the mobile application to verify the functions and investigate the extents of the system i.e. estimate the number of courses that can be served.

Current Status of Research Progress
Current Status of Research Progress

2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.

Reason

Work on CMS-mini project has advanced normally for the following reasons:
The need to comply with the currently used standards in education (like IMS Enterprise). This required studying the standards and designing the software tools according to them.
The huge amount of documents that needed to be searched for the proper deployment of Google App Engine applications.
The need to run true/simulated tests on the system to ensure that it meets the needs of the users i.e. the instructors and the students. The tests usually requires long period of time in order to get enough information about the difficulties and the traffic on the system.
The few number of researchers working on this project.

Strategy for Future Research Activity

CMS-mini is planned to serve more features than the currently implemented ones like:
- Scheduling and notifications.
- Connectivity with external systems (like Student Management Systems SIS)
- Serving more than one course in one deployment.
We plan to implement these features in the next stage and let CMS-mini go under heavy load test.
