Research Abstract |
Theoretical framework has been delimitde and reviewed. According to the research plan, significant Japanese and Western realizations of a long-term and short-term care housing were definde (senior houses or senior welfare institutions have been already contactde in many countries : Japan, USA, Canada, Australia, Thailand, Hong-Kong, China, Philippines, India, many Places in Europe). I startde to determine the research field sample, which is focusing on multiple populations as well as on diverse environments an which includes standard and new or innovative forms of senior care housing. In parallel, I realizde a theoretical research and analyses of architectural trends on the worldwide scale in order to determine cultural aspects of senior housing. Results of this study were presentde at the Conference on Education and Human Development in Asia-Change, Continuity and Diversity : Perspectives on Sustainability for Asia in Hiroshima, in March 2014. As one of the most interesting results of this tudy I can mention that East has met West in the design of senior housing in Asia. The question is now how to adapt design projects of senior housing and how to attend culture as and imprtant part of the residents welfare and quality of life? In March I also realized the first research trips in Tama New Town (which is supposed to be the world's first metropolis with the higher ratio of elderly people) and in Tokyo, where I visited the Reversible Destiny Loft (aresidence which encourages aging-in-place and which has been designed to stimulate the senses for beyond what a typical older person is used to in the daily life) and had a meeting with the building's administrators, as well as with the manager of Japanese brunch of the Reversible Destiny Foundation. During this research trips I also began the test turvey, which is now in progress (test inquiries were distributed in these locations and will be harvestde after approximately 1 moth).

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
The first phase of the research has been realized as in the research plan submitted in October, 2013. Additionally apresentation at the international scientific conference is already done, which shows that the part of the research related to cultural aspects of senior housing is in progress more than expected.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
A. Conducting interviews with residents as well as visiting and analyzing selected architectural typologies according to cultural aspects of senior housing as well as to 9 dimensions defined in the research plan, in Japan and overseas (overseas institutions will be defined according to the agreement of administrators and the feasibility of the research, however senior houses or senior welfare institutions have been already contacted inmany countries, like USA, Canada, Australia, Thailand, Hong-Kong, China, Philippines, India, many places in Europe). B. Participating and presenting partial results of the research at the high level academic conferences or meetings in order to share the research, have discussions with other specialist working on similar subjects as well as to know what are the current research done in this arpa on a global scale, how are they realized and to what results do they lead (2 papers already accepted for high level international scientific conferences which will be held in July, 2014 : ENHR (European Network of Housing Research) in Edinburgh & XVIII ISA World Congress of Sociology in Yokohama).
