Research Abstract	新しい研究ネットワークを5研究所間で構築し、電子相関系の研究を物理と化学の融合という立場から実りの多い1年目であった。特に、全体会議・班会議を多数回重ね、共同研究の芽が育ってきた。第1班は酸化物超伝導体や金属絶縁体転移を示す強相関電子系物質を新たに開発した。また、高原子価Fe^<4+>、CO^<4+>を含むペロブスカイト型酸化物のエピタキシャル薄膜や高圧下での各種遷移金属酸化物単結晶の作製に成功した。有機系物質では、新規磁性超伝導体や分子磁石を開発した。他に、角度分解光電子分光による強相関電子系物質のバンド構造、電子構造の決定や、化学反応のエネルギーを電流として取り出すことなどに成功した。第2班は金属と興味深い電子相関および原子間相互作用を有する有機物の界面ナノ構造等を新規に創成し、物性測定と中性子等による構造解析法に特徴のある物理学と化学の真の融合をめざしたナノ構造材料についての共同研究を開始した。第3班では高エネルギー加速器研究機構の放射光施設に、特別のビームラインを整備し新しく構造解析を目的とする測定装置建設を行っている。また、高感度のSQUID磁化率測定装置を据え付け、遷移金属酸化物、硫化物などの新しい物質創製の研究に利用している。一方、第4班では、我が国の代表的な材料研究所のスーパーコンピューターをスーパーSINETによって10Gbpsという世界最速の専用光ファイバー網で接続し、従来の個別のスーパーコンピューターでは達成できなかった局所密度近似を遥かに超えた多体相関の効果を取り込んだ超大規模シミュレーション計算を行い、ナノテクノロジーを実現する分子レベル制御集積回路の設計環境の実現を目指し、準備を整えている。第5班では5研究所の研究者間のコミュニケーションを容易にするために、今年度にインターネット上で稼動する高速のテレビ会議システムを5研究所すべてに導入した。また、全研究所が参加するような会議を可能にするために、多地点制御システムを高エネルギー加速器研究機構に導入・運用を開始した。
