Research Abstract	電子相関を扱う物性関係の5研究所をネットワークでつなぐ本プログラムも、2年目に入り、本格的な活動が始まった。まず、新しい研究体制の基礎となる最重点課題として強相関科学研究に必須の構造解析に特化した多目的X線回折装置をKEK放射光施設(BL-1A)に建設した。この装置はコラボラトリー対応の遠隔操作を可能とする。同様に中性子汎用粉末回折計性能向上と小中角散乱装置の改造を実現し同様に研究所間共同実験を開始した。また、国内高度研究機関を超高速光コンピューターネットワークで結合するスーパーSINETの最大限活用を目指し、スーパーコンピューター結合と、ITBLを基盤とした全電子混合基底法の分散化処理プログラム作成を行い、分子研と金研のスーパーコンピューター連結によるナノダイヤモンドの構造最適化と物性予測を行った。一方、具体的な強相関物質系の研究として、第1班では、遷移金属酸化物について、電荷・軌道・スピン自由度と格子系とのカップルした新奇な相転移を見出し、薄膜において紫外線照射によるキャリア注入や非線形伝導の観測に成功した。また、分子性導体におけるバンドフィリングコントロールや微少結晶の構造決定に成功した。さらに、世界最高性能を誇る光電子分光装置を作成した。第2班では超臨界水中での新物質創成(無触媒新反応)、有機π-σ共役電子系の合成(クラーレン、ポリチオフェン)、生体内遷移金属カルコゲン化物の合成(S、Seを含む物質)、表面ポリマーブラシの作成、ナノクラスターの構造と機能(単分子膜FET)、二次元電子系の研究、強磁場中新物質創成において成果を得た。第5班では、TV会議の環境整備を行うとともに、研究会(班会議)の中継、研究打ち合わせ等を多地点同時に行うと共に、放射光ビームラインの遠隔制御の実証実験を行った。
