Research Abstract

The dry deposition of atmospheric aerosols was investigated using field observation and model simulation in East Asia.
A new experimental technique for measuring dry deposition flux of aerosol particles was developed based on the relaxed eddy accumulation (REA) method. Using this measurement system, the dry deposition velocity of atmospheric aerosols was investigated under the several meteorological conditions in the grassland and snow field.
A series of model simulation using three types of chemical transport model (HYPACT, and CMAQ) coupled with a meteorological model (RAMS) has been conducted to analysis the dynamics of atmospheric aerosols in East Asia.
RAMS/HYPACT could reproduce the temporal and spatial distributions of concentration and deposition for sulfur and nitrogen. Source-receptor relationships using by RAMS/HYPACT demonstrated that annual sulfur and nitrogen deposition in Japan was 49 % and 34 % from China, respectively. Additionally, the future acid deposition over East Asia in 2020 was predicted by the RAMS/CMAQ modeling system.
We will continue our research in the following directions. (1) validate the aerosol dry deposition measurement system via further observations, (2) validate our RAMS/CMAQ using the dataset by field observation groups.
