| Research Abstract |
This research has aimed to publish the catalogue Raisonne of Namban screens which are produced as a result of the exchange of Europe with Japan from the 16th century to the 17th century.
1. Information exchange concerning whereabouts of in existence work of Namban screen
The maximum result of this research is to be able to confirm a total number of in existence Namban Screens. The number of works came to count 92 in total now. This number far exceeds the expectation at first.
2. Investigation of works
The investigation of 62 pieces including the ones in foreign countries was able to be executed now. Many of works not investigated are whose present owners are uncertain.
3. Classification
As a result of the investigation, it was confirmed that the depiction of the picture that proceeded was recycled in various ways excluding a little initial example. It seems that they recycled the description by copying the works or studying by using the textbook concretely.
The classification of these screens is being still examined now. It is thought that it divides into four group 50 works and the rest (It divides into two groups if it dares to classify) now.
4. Announcement of result of research
The result of this research will be published as catalogue Raisonne of Namban screens in several years. The work of writing and the edit is progressing according to each role now.
