Research Abstract |
We develop JSL(Japanese Sign Language) animation system for hearing-impaired people who refuse to visit and communicate with staffs of a hospital because, they can not communicate by sign languages. Some JSL animations of the X-ray inspection of stomach were created by computer. An analysis of sign language grammar and configuration of sign language dictionary were carried out to find characteristics about hand remainder and refraction in sign language used. Images of sign animation were regularly composed in accordance with sign language grammar. Then, sign animation was improved base upon movement of gesture of five signers who engaged in interpretation between sign language and Japanese language. Moreover, we improved to lift up descriptive power of sign animation such as face expression. 30 hearing-impaired evaluated our sign animation developed. Results showed that it could raise comprehensibility of some sign animations. However, there was a still incomprehensible sign animation. We estimate that problem is in defect of an unpleasant expression or sharpness of movement. Furthermore, in order to introduce to a medical field, it examined knowledge to relate to sign language demanded by medical stuff. For 1335 medical institution of Shiga prefecture, it conducted to investigate about communication at the time of diagnosis in a hospital. It was cleared that they were not in a state of safe or relief to get diagnosis with doctor or technical stuffs. This paper proves that it will assist an information certification in a medical area.
