Research Abstract

本研究は,地震断層の繰り返し運動のメカニズムを解明する目的で行われている.本年度の研究は,当初の研究計画に沿って,研究を進めてきており,研究成果として,すでに昨年度6編,今年度8編の論文が国際・国内の学術雑誌に公表している(今年度の研究発表論文リストを参照).また,2003年度アメリカ地質学会年会の招待講演として,本研究の成果を発表した.
本年度の研究では,研究代表者(林)のほか,研究参加者狩野謙一・道林克禎および研究協力者である丸山正の四人で,オーストラリアのWoodroffeせん断帯の野外調査を行い,断層帯の断面測定・観察することができた.また,さまざまなタイプのシュードタキライトのサンプルを数百キロ採集した.これらのサンプルを整理して,数百枚の研磨片および電子顕微鏡分析用薄片を作成した.これらの研磨片・薄片を用いて,肉眼および顕微鏡下での微細構造観察および電子顕微鏡の分析を進めている.これらの初歩的な研究結果,脆性破壊領域で形成したシュードタキライトと塑性変形領域で形成したシュードタキライトおよびマイロナイトの共存現象が明らかにされた.比較するため,これまでに報告された典型的なシュードタキライトの産地:Scotland北部のOuter Hebrideせん断層帯と中国大別山超高圧変成帯に産出するシュードタキライトの薄片ををも作成して,観察をおこなっている.また,既存の活断層と地震断層との関係および地震断層の繰り返し運動のメカニズムを解明するために,2001年中国チベット高原の北部で起きたMs8.1昆崙山中部地震地震の地表地震断層および1995年兵庫県南部地震の震源断層の調査・研究をも平行して行っている.
