Research Abstract |
The researches were conducted in the forestry areas in template zone on the northern hemisphere, and collect wood-feeding insects such as beetles, termites and cockroaches living inside the dead wood. Ecological data such as habitat and colony composition were also examined. The insects preserve in alcohol for identification and DNA analyses. Further, We analyzed the phylogenetic relationships of the each group of the wood feeding insects based on the mitochondrial DNA sequences such as cytochrome oxidase subunit I(COI), that of subunit II (COII) and 16S ribosomal RNA (rRNA). Phylogenetic analyses of fauna of terrestrial insects enable testing of paleogeographical hypotheses, and recently, mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) sequences have became a standard tool for phylogenetic inference of various insect groups. In the present project, we made our field researches in the various areas of the Northern Hemisphere on the phylogeny and biogeography of wood-feeding insects such as beetles, termites and cockroaches based on mitochondrial DNA sequences. We also made the ecological survey on the forest insects as well as faunal survey.
