Research Abstract

As we wrote in the study object, our study is an project to show the new characters of modern art, which has been separated between two groups, academism and modernism, in 19th century french art. Visiting Paris for three times, we have obtained many photographs of the chapel of Saint-Ferdinand, Pantheon, and Sacre-Coeur, some art critics of 19th century, and some concerting Ph. D. theses. They have inspired some important ideas for our studies, especially the revival of mosaics in 1870's, which may suggest that the technique of the medieval Christian art contributed to the divisional techniques of the modernism movement, from the Impressionism to the Cubism, especially pointillism of Neo-Impressionists as George Seurat. As span of our studies is wider than we had expected, the themes of the studies have been eventually limited. As the result, we could write about the two essays about Claude Monet's "Ruen Cathedral" series and representations of the sacred images of Gustave Moreau, and we contain here some notes about the mosaic of the Chrch of Ste. Genevieve (Now called "Panteon"), "Christ shows French future to their guardian angel" by Ernest Hebert
