Research Abstract |
Domain inversion of an electrooptic crystal makes ultrafast optical spatial modulation possible. We have developed ultrafas*t electrooptic modulators, which separate and control optical frequencies with domain inversion, such as an electrooptic deflector, a wave-front controller, an aberration corrector, a phase grating and their integrated devices. A wideband optical comb generator such as a Fabry-Perot modulator is useful for a optical frequency source on DWDM QptiCal communication and/or precise 9ptical spectroscopy. Domain inversion will improve the characteristics of a Fabry-Perot modulator. Fabry-Perot modulators with periodic domain inversion are studied theoretically and are fabricated by using. domain inversion of an LiTaO3 electro-optic crystal. It is important to set the conditions between periodic inversion and an optical cavity in order, to increase the modulation. A quasi-velocity-matched FP modulator as an optical comb generator is fabricated by domain inversion with applying high voltage pulses. Microwave modulation characteristics are tested with external optical cavity mirrors.
