Research Abstract |
1.Lγ x-ray measurement of the rare-earth elements in proton bombardment : (1)The rare-earth targets of Gd,Tb,and Dy were bombarded with 2-9 MeV proton beams. High-resolution measurement of Lγ x rays was made. The results showed that the measured spectrum profiles of Lγ x rays were identical within the experimental energy resolution of about 11 eV(FWHM) as compared with the data obtained with x-ray or electron excitation. (2)Theoretical calculations were made for the multiple ionization probability, the mean energy transfer and its straggling, and recoil energy. The results lead to the conclusions that the influence of the recoil effect on the 4f electrons is too small to generate change in Lγ x-ray spectrum in the present bombarding energies, however, there is a possibility to find the recoil effect below 1 MeV. 2.Basic performance of PSPC : (1)The PSPC was improved to get higher x-ray detection efficiency. In this procedure, the phenomenon of position-peak splitting was found. Since the phenomenon may give rise to deterioration of position(energy) resolution of the present work, the mechanism of the phenomenon was studied in detail. The results will be reported in publication.
