Research Abstract |
As is the case of the sanitary garments for the bedridden old men who are increasing rapidly in an aging society, the "sanitation" of a living environment is the problems to be settled hurriedly. At the present, a lot of organic and inorganic antibacterial agents have used. However, most organic antibacterial agents are fusible in the environment, and safety is now problem for a fiber (especially clothing) because of direct contact on the skin. In this research, in addition to the durable anti-soiling property by fixing the fluoroalkyl groups on the fiber surface, non-fusible organic antibacterial agents are developed by introducing the antibacterial segments. Results are summarized below. 1 A series of fluoroalkyl end-capped cationic oligomers were synthesized, and cellulose films (cotton fiber model) were also treated. Excellent water and oil repellency was achieved, but they gradually fell down during contact with water. 2 The cellulose films modified with the cationic oligomers also

showed antibacterial properties against E.. coli. and especially Staphyloccus aureus. 3 In the system where fluoroalkyl end-capped cationic oligomers and silane coupling agents are combined, water durability was improved and antibacterial property unchanged. 4 As the phosphonium oligomers show especially excellent antibacterial property, a novel co-oligomers with trimethoxyvinylsilane was designed and synthesized. Modified cellulose surface showed both excellent anti-soiling and antibacterial properties. 5 As the development of phosphoniumu-silane co-oligomers, I succeeded in syntheses of fluoroalkyl end-capped phosphonium oligomers having the blocked isocyanate segment as the reactive group to the fiber surface. 6 Both cellulose and glass surface modified with those phosphonium-blocked isocyanate co-oligomers were found to possess not only outstanding water and oil repellency but also strong antibacterial properties, especially against Staphyloccus aureus. Furthermore, co-oligomers were antifungal. As mentioned above, I succeeded in development of the non-fusible anti-soiling and antibacterial finishing. Less
