Research Abstract

This study cleared following three points.
1) The problem of the management of proper names in teaching history, particularly in secondary schools after 1960s, exists in picking up these names as a means to awake children's interests, or in picking up as an example in learning general historical concept. The meanings of proper names in learning history have not enough discussed up to now.
2) In history learning and teaching, the following fields on proper names compose essential factor of making understanding of history : a) coming of the names, b) selecting phenomena from past times, c) making significance of the phenomena.
3) The effective teaching method of proper names in history can be summed up to three points : a) Teaching proper names needs to take children's interest in social and daily problem into account, b) Teaching proper names needs children's faculty for using common names to some degree, c) In teaching proper names, comparative management of some phenomena seems to be considerably effective.
