Research Abstract |
Initial Goal : We aimed at "systematically compiling review articles of studies on acquisition of Japanese as a second language(JSLA) and its pertinent fields, conducted in Japan as well as English-, Chinese-, and Korean-speaking countries Achievements : (1)So far we compiled 39 review articles (including one invited paper) ; 3 lecture notes ; 11 introductory notes ; and 2 pertinent articles. They cover topics from versatile fields, including language acquisition, language education, and descriptive language research. These review articles collectively enlist nearly 3000 books and papers from Japanese-, English-, Chinese-and Korean-speaking countries. (2)We published these articles in the following three anthologies in the past three years : ・"The State of the Art in Second Language Acquisition and Instruction Research : 2002 Version" (Special Issue of "Japanese Language Education")---400 pages, 21 reviews and 9 pertinent articles ・"The State of the Art in Second. Language Acquisition and Instruction Research : 2002 Version" (Special Issue of "Japanese Language Education")---240 pages, 10 reviews and 2 pertinent articles ・"The State of the Art in Second Language Acquisition and Instruction Research : 2002 Version" (Special Issue of "Japanese Language Education")---256 pages, 8 reviews and 5 pertinent articles (3)Fortunately, this project has been favorably rably perceived in the academic community (e.g., Tahaka's book review on Acquisition of Japanese as a Second Language). Upon numerous requests from researchers and institution in both Japan and other countries, we dispatched nearly 800 complimentary copies in total. (4)We installed a PDF version of some of those articles on a Web server, to experiment their online distribution. (The experiment is currently in progress, and we plan to increase the number of online articles in a near future.) (5)One of the project participants of published her outcome in an external journal (Sugaya, 2004).
