Outline of Annual Research Achievements

Fieldwork in Cameroon and Chemical analyses in Japan:
First and second field works in Douala and Yaounde (Cameroon) have been carried out from December 2014 to January 2015 and September to October 2015. Monthly rain sampling from January-December 2015 has been completed. The most important chemical analysis of over 177 groundwater, surface water and rain water samples have been analysed in Tokai University. September-October 2015: Based on results of chemical analyses for the first field trip, users of drinking water with high nitrate concentrations (>50 ppm) were presented the analytical results and educated on the effects of such high concentrations on human life especially infants.
Contributions to the JSPS Science Dialogue Program: November 13, 2015: Presentation (Hydrogeochemistry and isotope hydrology: Significance to human livelihood) to Takamatsu Sakurai High School students in Kagawa
Scientific Journal Publications (2): Wirmvem MJ, Mimba ME, Kamtchueng BT, Wotany ER, Bafon TG, Asaah ANE, Fantong WY, Ayonghe SN, Ohba T (2015) Shallow groundwater recharge mechanism and apparent age in the Ndop plain, northwest Cameroon. Applied Water Science, DOI: 10.1007/s13201-015-0268-0, Accepted, February 2015. Current Status of Research Progress
Current Status of Research Progress

1: Research has progressed more than it was originally planned.

Reason

Two international conference presentations have been made instead of the initial target of one by now. The first two manuscripts have been published and the third has been submitted for publication in a journal. According to the initial plan, the second and third manuscripts were supposed to be under write-up until May 2016. Two more conference abstracts have been submitted and accepted for oral presentations at the JpGU2016 Meeting.

Strategy for Future Research Activity

April-2015: Preparation of two conference talks
May-2015: Attend JpGU2016 Meeting; make two oral presentations
June-August 2015: Writing of the fourth manuscript
June-September: Compilation and submission of report
September 30-Early October: Return to Cameroon
