Research Abstract

本研究では,(1)広いスペクトル領域における高性能面発光レーザとその極限性能追求,(2)面発光レーザの波長制御技術の開拓と大規模な2次元集積化,(3)3次元集積化による大規模集積化波長ルーティング回路,の3項目のデバイス研究を中核とし,これらのデバイスを結集して,超高速光ネットワークへの応用と新しいシステムコンセプトの創成を目指して,研究を進めた.具体的な研究成果は,以下の通りである.
テラビット級大容量の光データリンクの実現を目指して研究を進め,高歪GaInAs/GaAs量子井戸による世界高性能の長波長帯面発光レーザを製作し,耐戻り光特性に優れた低しきい値単一波長レーザ動作を実現して,高温下で10Gb/sの単一モード光ファイバ伝送に成功した.また,110波長の多波長面発光レーザの集積化に初めて成功し,面発光レーザの高密度集積化の可能性を実証した.さらに,面発光レーザを光の高速光信号処理デバイスへと新たに展開できることを見出し,光インバータ動作,光双安定,高速偏波面制御など,単一素子で高度な光信号処理機能を発現できることを実証した.また,垂直共振器である面発光レーザとマイクロマシンを融合した可変光デバイスをさらに,水平方向へと発展させた中空光導波路による新しい光導波路デバイスを創案し,中空コアにおける低損失伝搬特性,10%超える巨大可変特性,微小中空コアにおける巨大な波長分散や光速度の低下など,興味深い知見が得られた.
一方,次世代フォトニックネットワーク用のAdd/Drop波長フィルタとして國分らが提案・開発してきた積層マイクロリング共振器型波長フィルタについては,立体交差バスライン構造と4次直列結合を融合させた構造を実現して,クロスグリッドバスライン導波路の交差損失を解消すると同時に理想形状に近い箱形スペクトル特性を得る事に成功した.また,紫外線トリミング技術を応用して高じ直列結合フィルタの個別トリミングによる高性能化を実証し,さらにノンブロッキング波長チューナブルフィルタと呼ぶ新機能デバイスを実証した.
