| Research Abstract |
This project has been propelled forward by a research-group consisting of twelve members : one head investigator, five other investigators, and six collaborating scholars. During the three-year project term, we had seven regular meetings (including one mini-symposium) and carried out five surveys of works in the collections of art dealers in the Kansai and Kanto areas. Each member also made a survey of an allotted field within this research project as well as his/her own individual research. The research results are as follows :
1.Publication of new discoveries in each member's allocated part.
2.Compilation of a database of paintings, calligraphy, and other materials cited in Kogabiko. The entire group participated in creating this database. It analyzes the original manuscript of Kogabiko through the entries on the artists, related materials and visual images, signatures, seals, information about works and materials, donors of information, comments by the author, Asaoka Okisada, and the

3.Completion of inputting the texts of all the volumes of Kogabiko.
4.Completion of digital photography of the entire set of volumes of the original manuscript of Kogabiko in the library of the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music.
The research results of No.1 are published in individual member's articles and vol.1 of the final report of this project and those of No.2. are in vol.2. The enterprises of No.3 and No.4 were carried out to prepare a basic infrastructure for collating the texts of the three versions of Kogabiko : the original manuscript, a later copy stored in the Tokyo National Museum, and the more recent publication by Shibunkaku Shuppan. Using the above-mentioned database, our next endeavor is to excavate materials and works still remaining in obscurity and to complete a collation of the three Kogabiko. These projects will be very difficult, but necessary for us to objectively understand the present discipline of Japanese art history.
