Research Abstract

Non-spherical gold nanoparticles sush as gold nanorods show unique optical properties depending on their shapes. In this project, we have tried to implant the gold nanoparticles onto the glass plate and have attempted spectrometric applications using the longitudinal plasmon band of the gold nanorods
(1)Sensors using surface plasmon resonance (SPR)
We have immobilized the cationic gold nanorods onto the glass plate by using the technique of layer-by-layer deposition of polyions. The longitudinal plasmon band of the gold nanorod showed substantial shifts depending on the refractive indices of the solvents.
(2)Sensors for surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS)
We have succeeded in the fabrication of the monoparticle film of gold nanords at the liquid-liquid interface. The gold nanorods with higher aspect ratio gave larger SERS signals.
(3)Photoelectric conversion devices
We have applied the monoparticle film of gold nanospheres formed at the liquid-liquid interface, and the photoresponsive dyes were self-assembled on the film. The photocurrent was certainly enhanced by localized surface plasmon.
