Research Abstract |
This research group on jungle fowl has been making morphological and genetic research activities on jungle fowl and native chickens in Asia. The aim of this study is to confirm the distribution of 3 subspecies of red jungle fowls in continental Southeast Asia, and to clarify the evolution and domestication of red jungle fowl in Southeast Asia. A clear interrelationship has been confirmed between the result of hearing surveys on crossing with native chickens and red jungle fowl in Thailand. From our result of analysis of D-loop region in three subspecies of red jungle, it was difficult to confirm the sole ancestor of domestic chicken. The domestication of jungle fowl is established in long and close interrelationship between the jungle fowl and the human being.
