| Research Abstract |
(1)王立美術院に関する文献を読んだ。また、Discourses on Artを精読し、Reynolds関連の文献も含めて、この美術講義に影響を与えた以下の文献を精読した。
Joseph Addison, The Spectator (1711-12); Mark Akenside, The Pleassures of Imagination (1744); Edmund Burke, A Philosophical Enquiry into the Origin of our Ideas of the Sublime and Beautiful (1757); John Dryden, Fables Ancient and Modern (1700); "A Parallel of Poetry and Painting" (1695); James Harris, Three Treatises (1744), Johann Joachim Winckelmann, Reflections on the Painting and Sculpture of the Greeks. Tr. Henry Fuseli (1765), William Hogarth, An Analysis of Beauty (1753)など。また王立美術院の展覧会評および入選した絵画評、落選した絵画評などを、当時の新聞(Public Advertiserなど),様々なジャーナルやパンフレットから収集し解読した。
(2)王立美術院の展覧会に入選した作品および落選した作品の画像を可能なかぎり多く入手した。
(3)国内に文献がない場合は、British Library, University Library of Cambridge, Bodleian Library of Oxfordなどからマイクロフィルムの形で取り寄せた。
(4)王立美術院、Discourses on Artに関して個別的に論じた研究書や論文を多数入手し精読した。
